Data Source

Prior to 2015-2016, the Texas Hunger Initiative provided their analysis of  Texas Department of Agriculture data. From 2015-2016 onward, Texas Department of Agriculture data is accessed from the Texas Open Data Portal.
The Texas Hunger Initiative, a project of Baylor University, conducts university-based research to determine what anti-hunger efforts are effective and provides the support and expertise to coordinate work in communities—finding solutions to food insecurity that are greater than the sum of their parts.

Notes

Free or reduced price meals are available to students whose families earn less than 185% federal poverty guidelines or are enrolled in other programs for low-income children, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Children in foster care or who attend schools using the Community Eligibility Provision are also eligible.

Data for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years may be significantly different from other years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
