Definition

These data represent the number of arrests of children under age 18. Note that these data include the arrests of 17-year-old youth, in order to comply with the federal requirements of uniform crime reporting policies across states, even though all 17-year-old youth in Wisconsin are considered adults for purposes of prosecution. These data represent the number of arrests, not the number of youth arrested: if a youth was arrested more than once in a specific county within a calendar year, they will be counted more than once in the totals for that county. These data may have been influenced by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, starting in 2020.

Data Source

Some information on juvenile arrests is available on the Wisconsin Department of Justice's website. Arrest counts can change slightly over time as local agencies update or correct their information. Data for 2022 and 2023 were provided by the Wisconsin Department of Justice through a data request, and may not match data that will be updated later in the year on their arrests dashboard.
