Definition

Data represent the percentage of births in a given year to mothers without a high school degree (regardless of maternal age). Incidences less than 5 are indicated with N.A. (not available).

The number of births for which the educational status of the mother is unknown increased sharply between 2010 and 2011, although the number of births for which information is missing remains under 1% of all births. Prior to 2011, births to mothers without a high school degree is calculated as a share of total births; for the years 2011 and after, the indicator is calculated as a share of births for which the educational status of the mother is known.
