Definition

Count of Children enrolled in Child Care Centers by license rating of facility from January of each year. Values do not include children enrolled in Family Child Care Homes.

* = Data suppressed when the enrollment value is less than 10

A rating of one star means that a child care program meets North Carolina’s minimum licensing standards for child care. Programs that choose to voluntarily meet higher standards can apply for a two to five star license. The star rating is comprised of a facility’s scores in three quality components: Staff Education, Program Standards and Compliance History. For more information on the Star Rated Licenses please refer to https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov/Services/Licensing/Star-Rated-License.

North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child Development and Early Education.

Note from DCDEEOur data is collected/updated at licensing visits in a rolling manner. At any point that the data is pulled it represents a snapshot from that date and the data for any individual facility can be anywhere from 1-364 days out of date. Duplicates may be included if a program offers 2nd and/or 3rd shift care. We also suppress enrollment data that is less than 10.
