Through 2017 the number of new cases of HIV/AIDS diagnosed
represents (1) a diagnosis of HIV infection (not AIDS), (2) a diagnosis
of HIV infection with a later diagnosis of AIDS, and (3) concurrent
diagnoses of HIV infection and AIDS, during this time period. Note that for the 20-24 age group numbers of new AIDS (HIV Stage 3) data are not included for years prior to 2011.
Starting with 2018 data DC reports the number of newly diagnosed HIV cases covering all stages of HIV (including stage 3, AIDS).
