Juveniles who were admitted to detention with secure custody orders from different counties are counted in all counties where secure custody orders originated. County counts do not include detention admissions from Native American Reservations or Federal Marshall.
North Carolina's juvenile justice system jurisdiction extends to youth age 6 to 17 charged with status/undisciplined offenses and juveniles age 6 to 15 charged with misdemeanors and felonies. Youth age 16 and older charged with misdemeanors or felonies are prosecuted in adult courts.
