For 2016-2019, Youth in the Juvenile Justice System is the number of youth age 18 or under who were in the care or custody of the Rhode Island Training School at any time during the calendar year, including youth in community placements while in the care or custody of the Training School.
For 2020 and on, Youth in the Juvenile Justice System is the number of youth age 18 or under who were on probation in Rhode Island and the number of youth age 18 or under who were at the Rhode Island Training School at any time during the calendar year.

There is no statutory lower age limit for sentencing,

sentences at the Training School.
