Definition
The number of children ages birth to 18 who had some type of health insurance. The percent is based on the population ages birth to 18.
Data Source
U.S. Census Bureau, Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE). Detroit, Flint, and Grand Rapids are single-year estimates from the American Community Survey Table B27001.
Notes
SAHIE methodology changed to use the American Community Survey starting in 2008. Thus, data prior to 2008 should not be compared to data after 2008.
For 2020 city-level data, the U.S. Census Bureau did not release its standard 1-year estimates from the 2020 American Community Survey (ACS) because of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on data collection. Therefore, these data are unable to be updated.Prior to 2017, estimates for Detroit and Flint only included children ages 0-17.
