Why This Indicator Matters
The health requirements of the school community are identified, assessed, planned for, carried out, and evaluated by school nurses. School nurses are essential in helping students the healthcare they need. They also identify students with particular medical requirements and provide them with programs and therapies. Student preparedness to study and health are intertwined, and education is a social predictor of health that forecasts future success. Health problems that affect learning and heighten the inequities faced by urban minority children have a disproportionately negative influence on them. School nurses work at the nexus of health and education, tying in the supports required to remove obstacles to learning and promote healthy children, families, and communities.
