The number of children under age 19 enrolled in Medicaid service under all Program Aid Categories excluding Health Choice (Children's Health Insurance Program).
Data Source
Special data tabulation provided by North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, NC Medicaid, Division of Health Services, NC Analytics Data Warehouse in December 2025. The numbers include the total number of children under age 19 enrolled in Medicaid services, excluding Health Choice (Children’s Health Insurance Program). The number of children enrolled in Health Choice benefits are reported as a separate indicator.
Notes
On April 1, 2023, North Carolina transitioned to a combined Medicaid structure and eliminated its standalone Children’s Health Insurance Program (Health Choice). Children previously enrolled in Health Choice were automatically transitioned to NC Medicaid. As a result, Medicaid enrollment counts for children under age 19 increased beginning in 2023.
