Definition

The percent of mothers receiving at least adequate prenatal care, by maternal age.  This includes the categories of “adequate” or “intensive” prenatal care, as defined by the Adequacy of Prenatal Care Utilization Index developed by Milton Kotelchuck, Ph.D., M.P.H. “Adequate” means that prenatal care was begun by the 4th month and that between 80 percent and 109 percent of expected visits were received. “Intensive” means that prenatal care was begun by the 4th month and that at least 110 percent of expected visits were received.
