Statistics on children, youth and families in Delaware from the Annie E. Casey Foundation and KIDS COUNT in Delaware
Why This Indicator Matters
Driving at night can be dangerous, especially for young, inexperienced drivers. Reduced visibility creates dangerous roads, and drivers have less time to react to road signs, curves, other cars, pedestrians, and anything that might come out in front of them. The rate of fatal crashes at night for drivers aged 16–19 is approximately three times greater per mile driven compared to adult drivers.
This indicator utilizes military time. Military time is known as the “24-hour clock.” Time starts at 00:00 and ends at 24:00. Hours and minutes are represented by two digits; for example, 1:00 AM is 01:00, and 1:00 PM is 13:00.
