Why This Indicator Matters

Questionnaire asks Delaware public high school students: Some people describe themselves as transgender when their sex at birth does not match the way they think or feel about their gender. Are you transgender?

Youth who “come out” are in desperate need of a safe space to process their experiences. During this vulnerable time, there are unique challenges faced by these teenagers that could have adverse implications in their lives. Because our culture makes it hard for individuals different from the norm to share their story without being judged or questioned, we need to adopt alternatives to support all youth, no matter how they identify.
