Why This Indicator Matters
Use of electronics is time spent on weekdays in front of a TV, computer, cellphone, or other electronic device watching programs, playing games, accessing the internet, or using social media, excluding schoolwork. Overuse of electronics can have negative effects on a child’s well-being, such as behavioral problems and undernourishment. Current knowledge about child use of electronics understands it can be dangerous and threatens children’s psycho-social well-being. Risk factors for child use of electronics are ADHD-related behaviors and lower socio-emotional functioning. A child can experience strain, fatigue, and headaches based on excessive use of electronics.
