The Smarter Balanced Math Assessment measures proficiency in concepts and procedures, problem solving, modeling and data analysis, and communicating reasoning. Note that Smarter Balanced replaces Connecticut’s previous assessment, the Connecticut Mastery Test.

Connecticut State Department of Education, Published Data, Academic Years 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024.
Notes
Note: In 2019-20, all statewide academic assessments were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic; therefore, no results are available. In 2020-21, school learning models changed throughout the school year and many students learned remotely for a significant part of the year. The CSDE was committed to administering the state assessments to monitor long-term trends and evaluate the full impact of the pandemic on student achievement and growth, but secured a waiver from the U.S. Department of Education to not implement the Next Generation Accountability System for schools and districts. In light of these significant variations, the 2020-21 results are reported separately with specialized considerations and analyses.
The totals and percentages of students meeting or exceeding goals were summarized from State Department of Education reports. Counts of 20 or fewer—excluding zero—were suppressed by the Department, as were percentages generated from suppressed counts.
