Why This Indicator Matters
Home visiting programs, like Maine Families provide children and families critical support during the key developmental years, strengthening families and communities across the entire state. Home visiting programs are voluntary, evidence-based and designed to help promote healthy childhood development during the early years by providing expectant parents and parents of young children with education and support in their home. What the data shows
In federal fiscal year 2024, (October 2023 to September 2024) the Maine Families Home Visiting Program served 1,730 children. In 2023, there were 11,621 births. The largest number of children were served in Cumberland, Penobscot, York and Androscoggin Counties with 242, 240, 179 and 150 children served respectively. The number of children receiving Home Visiting services was up by 32 children from the previous year but has not returned to the pre-pandemic level of 2,002 children served in 2019.
In 2024, there were 10 children visited whose county was listed as unknown.
