Definition

The disparity between the percent of White, non-Hispanic women and the percent of Hispanic women who did not start receiving prenatal care in the first trimester of the pregnancy.

Data Source

Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

Notes

While this indicator shows the percentage of births where prenatal care was not initiated during the first trimester, it does not indicate the adequacy of the care or if care was continued throughout the pregnancy.

The methodology for collecting information during the time prenatal care began during pregnancy was changed in the 2010 revision of the Maryland birth certificate. As a result, prenatal care data collected from 2010 onward are not comparable to data collected in earlier years.
