Why This Indicator Matters
Kinship care, a living arrangement in which a child lives with relatives, is critical for the stability and safety of thousands of Louisiana children who are unable to live with their parents. The Kinship Care Subsidy Program provides a modest level of support for relatives with lower incomes who are caring for relative children. The number of children served by the Kinship Care Subsidy Program in Louisiana fell by 71% between FY 2005 and FY 2022.
