Estimated number of children younger than age 18 by race and ethnicity from the American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates.

Data Source

U.S. Census Bureau, 2006–2010 through 2019–2023, American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates, Tables B01001, B01001B, B01001C, B01001D, B01001F, B01001G, B01001H, and B01001I.

Notes

Although overlapping 5-year time periods are shown for this indicator, the Census Bureau suggests comparing periods that do not overlap—for example, comparing 2013–2017 estimates with 2019–2023 estimates. This means waiting longer to identify a trend. However, in areas undergoing fundamental shifts in the size or composition of the population, change may be so substantial that it will be obvious after only a few years. For more information on making comparisons with American Community Survey multi-year estimates, see Chapter 4 of Understanding and Using American Community Survey Data: What All Data Users Need to Know.

Non-Hispanic Black and African American is not available from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey Summary tables. Therefore, race/ethnic groups represented in this table are not mutually exclusive and do not sum to the county total. The category of White includes only non-Hispanic White. The other race categories include both Hispanic and non-Hispanic.

Smaller numbers reflect less reliable estimates and should be used with caution.
