Why This Indicator Matters

School attendance and academic success are positively linked. Chronic absence from school for any reason (excused or unexcused) places students at serious risk of poor outcomes, including lower test scores and ultimately dropping out of school. This, in turn, can reduce employment and earning potential in adulthood.
