Definition

The number of New Mexico children under the age of 18 living with grandparents who may or may not be financially or otherwise responsible for them. All Ages refers to the total number of grandchildren 0-17 years old.
The percentage should be read as the number of grandchildren in a particular age group relative to the total number of 0-17 year old grandchildren. Thus in 2022, 36% of the children who lived with their grandparents were under the age of 6.

Data Source

U.S. Census, American Community Survey, 1-year estimates, Table B10001.

Notes

County-level data available by request.

New Mexico state-level data typically are from the American Community Survey 1-year estimates. As a result of COVID-19 data collection challenges, the 2020 New Mexico state-level data are 5-year estimates and not comparable to other years.
