Definition
Number of children ages 0 to 18 enrolled in Medicaid (Healthy Montana Kids Plus), Healthy Montana Kids (CHIP), and total enrolled in either program. The percentage reported is for how many children are enrolled in Medicaid/Healthy Montana Kids out of all 0 to 18 year olds.
Medicaid and Healthy Montana Kids are Montana's public health insurance programs. Children are eligible for Medicaid if they are at or below 143% of the federal poverty level. Medicaid for children is also called Healthy Montana Kids Plus. Children are eligible for Healthy Montana Kids (CHIP) if they are between 144% and 261% of the federal poverty level.
The denominator for the percentage is the total population ages 0 through 18 in respective geographic areas for the matching year. Not all children ages 0 through 18 in the population are eligible and this percentage does not represent a percent enrolled who are eligible.
