Why This Indicator Matters

NAEP is the only test that measures what students know and can do in various subjects across states and some urban districts. While DC CAS and PARCC can provide important information, NAEP allows for comparisons for how well DC schools are preparing their students compared to schools in other states.

Notes

Note that the NAEP test, which a sample of students take, is different from the PARCC test, which all DC public school students take. Proficient on the NAEP is not equivalent to proficient on the PARCC.

N/A indicates years where no test was given or for which a score is not available.

Accommodations for students with disabilities and English language learners were not permitted in 1990, 1992, 1994, and 1996.
