Definition

Infant mortality rate is the number of infants who die before their first birthday per 1,000 live births. Infant mortality rate disparity is the ratio of the Black infant mortality rate compared to the White infant mortality rate.

For example, a value of 2.0 means that the Black babies are dying at twice the rate of White babies.

Notes

S is a value of 5 or less events (deaths) in any three-year period and thus is not reported.

To minimize spikes in the data due to small sample sizes, rates were calculated using three-year rolling averages. For example, 2012-2014 includes births and infant deaths in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
