Definition

Family income is the income of all household members ages 15 and older who are related to the householder. Median family income divides the distribution of the incomes of all families into two parts with half falling below the median and half above the median.
Median family income is shown in inflation-adjusted dollars.

Data Source

U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey, Table B19113, 1-year estimates.

Notes

Household income differs from family income in that it includes the incomes of members of a household who are not related to the householder (such as boarders, renters, and roommates). Because many households consist of only one person, household income is usually lower than family income.

County-level data available by request.

New Mexico state-level data typically are from the American Community Survey 1-year estimates. As a result of COVID-19 data collection challenges, the 2020 New Mexico state-level data are 5-year estimates and not comparable to other years.
