Definition and Source

PROVIDER

Definition

Percent of children under age 18 below the official poverty threshold by select race and ethnicity groups.

Data Source

U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 5-year estimates (tables B17001A-I).

Notes

Estimates over a five-year period.

Estimates are survey-based and carry margins of error.

Other combines American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, some other race and two or more races. Hispanic overlaps the other groups.

* replaces the percent where the county has no children of that race in the Census Bureau estimate, so no percent can be calculated. A percent of 0 means children of that race do live in the county but none are estimated to be in the group counted (below the poverty line, or without health insurance). The number is 0 in both cases.
