Percent of enrolled public school students who are chronically absent from school by Alaska Public Health Region
On June 9, 2021, US ED gave notification to DEED that the waiver for this accountability measure would be approved. As a result, schools that were identified for support in the 2019-2020 school year maintained their identification status in the 2020-2021 school year. These identifications were based on data from the 2018-2019 school year.
Chronic absenteeism is defined as being absent from school for at least 10 percent of the school days in which the student is enrolled. The student count includes any student enrolled for at least 10 days at a specific school during the 2015-2016 school year. Because chronic absenteeism is calculated at the school level, any student with 10 days of enrollment at multiple schools would be included in the statewide count multiple times.
Beginning in the 2017-2018 school year, chronic absenteeism was recorded as an accountability indicator with the same definition. However, the student count includes only those that have been enrolled for at least one half of the school term. Correspondence schools and schools located in facilities where students are incarcerated are not included in the regional analyses..
