Definition
“Employer-based only” includes those covered by one health plan that is offered through one’s own or a relative’s current, or former employer or union, including those who are covered by TRICARE or other military health coverage that is offered through health care programs for active-duty military personnel and retired members of the uniformed services, and their families and survivors. “Direct-purchase only” includes those covered by one health plan that is purchased directly from an insurance company by an individual or an individual’s relative. “Other private” includes those covered by more than private plan and not covered under any public plan. “Public only” includes those who coverage includes at least one of the federal programs Medicare, Medicaid, and other medical assistance programs, VA Health Care, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), or individual state health plans, and no private coverage.
