Definition

The number and percentage of grandparents who are responsible for their own grandchildren under 18 years of age and are living at or below the federal poverty level.
Percentage is derived by dividing the number of grandparents who are responsible for their own grandchildren and are living at or below the poverty level by the total number of grandparents living with and responsible for their own grandchildren in New Mexico, statewide and by county. Grandchildren are under 18 years of age.

Data Source

Derived from U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey, Table B10059.
State-level data are 1-year estimates; county-level data are 5-year estimates.

Notes

New Mexico state-level data typically are from the American Community Survey 1-year estimates. As a result of COVID-19 data collection challenges, the 2020 New Mexico state-level data are 5-year estimates and not comparable to other years.
