PROVIDER

Definition

Estimate of resident population ages 0-17 by race and Hispanic origin.

Data Source

Puzzanchera, C., Sladky, A. and Kang, W. "Easy Access to Juvenile Populations."

Notes

Estimates presented here are "bridged race estimates," meaning that statistical methods have been used to create new population estimates showing four racial categories (plus Hispanic origin) rather than the 31 race groups used by the 2000 and 2010 Census.  For more information on race bridging, please visit the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) web site.

NCHS ceased production of the bridged race estimates with the 2020 estimates. Agenda for Children now reports child population estimates by race through a special Census request process. Data for 2020 - present is not directly comparable because the new estimates include two additional categories-"Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander" and "Two or More Races."
