Definition and Source



The percentage of all live births is defined as babies who weigh under 2,500 grams (5.5 pounds) at birth.
At a state and county level, this indicator is a percentage based on a three-year average.  the numerator for this variable is the number of low birth-weight babies; the denominator is total births.
