Definition

Children under age 18 in immigrant families whose resident parents speak English less than "very well". Children in immigrant families are themselves foreign-born or reside with at least one foreign-born parent.

The Census Bureau advises that due to methodological changes to data collection, comparisons should be made with caution between 2013 estimates on English-speaking ability and those from prior years.
