Why This Indicator Matters
Home visiting programs, like Maine Families provide children and families critical support during the key developmental years, strengthening families and communities across the entire state. Home visiting programs are voluntary, evidence-based and designed to help promote healthy childhood development during the early years by providing expectant parents and parents of young children with education and support in their home. What the data shows
In federal fiscal year 2023, (October 2022 to September 2023) the Maine Families Home Visiting Program served 1,698 children. In 2022, there were 12,087 births. The largest number of children were served in Cumberland, Penobscot, York and Androscoggin Counties with 266, 180, 170 and 162 children served respectively. The number of children receiving Home Visiting services was up 43 from the previous year but has not returned to the pre-pandemic level of 2,002 children served in 2019.
