The data are reported by the place of residence, not the place of death.

2003-2021 data: Population Reference Bureau, analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), Multiple Causes of Death Microdata Files. Births are from the CDC, NCHS, Final Births Microdata Files.
