Definition

Percent of students in grades 3 to 8 scoring on track or mastered (2018-2021) or meeting or exceeding expectations (2022 onward) on TCAP assessments in English language arts, math, science and social studies. The Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) is the standardized testing program used in public school in Tennessee.

Data Source

Tennessee Department of Education, Assessment files.

Notes

Alvin C. York Institute, a state-run school, is excluded. Specialized schools (for example for the blind or deaf) are not included.

The year refers to the spring year of the school year (2024-25 is shown as 2025).

The Department of Education suppresses results for fewer than 10 students and percentages below 1% (or above 99%); suppressed values are left blank, not estimated.

The published values include students who took alternate assessments.

Series break in 2022: new standards and new performance-level wording (on track/mastered replaced by met/exceeded expectations), so 2022 onward is not comparable with earlier years.

No testing in 2020; science scores are not available for 2019.
