Definition

Data represent the percentage of students from 3rd to 8th grade who achieved Proficient or Advanced TCAP score in science during a school year. The Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) is the standardized testing program used in public school in Tennessee. The TCAP achievement test is a timed, multiple choice assessment that measures skills in reading, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.

Data Source

The TCAP scores and the number of valid tests by school district were collected from the Tennessee Department of Education. Kids Count division of Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth converted district level data to county level using statistical methods.

Notes

State special schools are not included. Due to the suspension of testing in grade 3-8 no accountability determinations were made for the 2015-16 school year.
From 2016-17 school year TCAP tests are replaced by TNReady tests. Similar type of data are available with new indicators: "3rd to 8th grade TNReady score"
