Definition
Number and percentage of students who actually participated everyday in the free or reduced price school meals program during a school year. Rate is percent of Average Daily Membership.
Data Source
The Tennessee Department of Education, Division of School Nutrition, provided participation data. Average Daily Cafeteria Attendance data are from district profile provided by the Department of Education. KIDS COUNT division of the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth calculated rate and converted district-level data to county level.
Notes
While the participation data were not directly available, the daily free-reduced price school lunch participation was computed from total free-reduced price lunch served in a given year using the following technique:
Free-Reduced Price Lunch Participation = Total Free-Reduced Price Lunch Served in a Year/180.
Where 180 = Total number of school days in a year.
State special schools are not included.
Data from 2019-20 are no longer created by the Department of Education.. But similar types of data series are provided under the name: Economically disadvantaged students' .
