Definition and Source

Definition

Child care subsidies are available to low-income working families to increase the opportunity for parents to obtain high-quality child care for their children while they work.  The figures represent the monthly average over a fiscal year.

Age Group
Infant:  Birth to 1 year
Young Toddler:  1 to 2 years
Older Toddler:  2 to 3 years
Preschool:  3 years to the date the child enters kindergarten in a public or private school system
Young School-Age:  Kindergarten to the date the child enters the 4th grade of a public or private school system
Older School-Age:  4th grade of a public or private school system to 13 years of age.  Also includes children 13 and over but under 19 years of age incapable of caring for himself.

Starting in October 2018, OCDEL did not provide data for counts less than 11. In those cases, the percent of children in high-quality could not be calculated.
